The SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) Club at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula organized Kathak Workshop Demonstration by Ms. Samiksha Sharma, to commemorate World Dance Day. She is working as a director and Guru” Gurukul Kathak Kendra” Indirapuram Ghaziabad, & Gwalior. She is associated with SPICMACAY as a WDS artist and impanelled artist of ICCR.She told the students that dance is both an art form and a method of communication in cultures around the world, and is practised by millions of people.
The workshop began with Smt. Samiksha Sharma explaining the meaning of Kathak .Then; she took the Bhavanites on the journey to the formation on Kathak dance and its vigorous steps, feminine aspects and multiples talaas. Her first performance was about Shiv Stuti followed by Dhamar and Thumri.. She demonstrated the different forms of Kathak with the help of explanations, thereby, making the art form easily comprehensible. The Workshop demonstration provided the stage for an informal interaction between the students and artist, and helped to create & fine-tune a future audience. The artist mesmerized the audience with her heart- pleasing dance performance.
The Chairperson , Dr.(Mrs). Shashi Banerjee of SPICMACAY Panchkula chapter and being the Principal of Bhavan Vidyalaya, was glad that the school students are showing such great love and affection for their country’s heritage and voluntarily take part in all these cultural activities. She called the association of Bhavan Vidyalaya Panchkula with SPICMACAY as a successful and effective way to make the students realize the auspicious beauty of our country’s heritage.
